Welcome to Beyond the Beach!

December 12, 2025

We don’t know how many of you are reading this first edition letter, so thank you!

Since my start date in early September, I have spoken to and heard from many residents and business owners about the need for more localized content, and I agree. While the City has always communicated through multiple channels, this seemed to be one area that could be revamped.

Erin and I have spent a lot of time over these past few months looking into the most efficient way to do this, and in the process we have issued more press releases than ever, created many social media posts, and updated the home page of our web site to update it more often and focus on more local news. Erin redesigned Lines in the Sand and added more local content to that as well. We investigated different delivery systems and found that we had the right tool all along – the same system that brings you Lines in the Sand is now that one that is delivering Beyond the Beach.

Our plan is to offset Lines with Beyond – rotating them each week. We reserve the right to change that if need be. We also want to be able to use Beyond to communicate out more urgent news or updates – different from the Beacon Alerts. Since the subscriber base to those is much more far reaching, sometimes those people don’t need to know of a brief road closure due to a downed tree; but our local residents, homeowners and businesses may (and often do) want that information.

The City of Rehoboth Beach holds so much emotional value to so many people, many of whom visit year after year from out of town. We want to provide them with updates, information, news and stories as much as possible. But, the locals are the heart and soul of the town and the ones who foster it, work in it, pay taxes, support businesses all year, and the ones who must put up with the off-season projects and events! So, this is for all of you.

Thank you for your support, your feedback, and for welcoming me as I have transitioned from a life-long vacationer to a full-timer.  I love the City of Rehoboth Beach too and am happy to share the ins and outs with all of you and hope you’ll continue to do the same.

Best wishes this holiday season,

Brooke Thaler
