RBPD Leaders Attend National Hurricane Conference, Share Preparation Insights

May 4, 2026

As we approach the 2026 Atlantic Hurricane Season (June 1 – November 30), with peak activity typically occurring between August and October, now is the time for residents to prepare and stay informed.

In preparation, Chief Keith Banks and 911 Communications Manager Nicholas Priddy recently attended the 2026 National Hurricane Conference in Orlando, Florida (March 30 – April 2). This annual conference brings together emergency management professionals, meteorologists, and public safety leaders from across the country to share best practices, participate in hands-on training, and strengthen preparedness, response, recovery, and mitigation efforts.

The knowledge and training gained help ensure our community is ready to respond effectively and keep residents safe during severe weather events.

Residents are encouraged to take the following preparedness steps:
• Build or update your emergency kit (water, food, medications, flashlights, batteries)
• Develop a family emergency plan and communication strategy
• Stay informed through trusted weather sources and local alerts
• Secure outdoor items and review your home insurance coverage
• Know your evacuation routes and local shelter information

Preparation today can make all the difference tomorrow. Stay safe, stay ready.
