City of Rehoboth Beach Announces New Beach Patrol Captain

May 11, 2026

Nico Caceres, who has been with Rehoboth Beach Patrol since he was a Junior Lifeguard at 10 years old, will serve as Captain

The City of Rehoboth Beach is pleased to announce that Nico Caceres is the new Captain of the Rehoboth Beach Patrol. He will take over for Jeff Giles, who will serve as Administrative Chief this summer during the transition, and officially retire after this season.

Caceres brings a rich history with the Rehoboth Beach Patrol to his new role. When he was 10 years old, his family moved to Long Neck, DE, from Downingtown, PA, and his mom put him into Rehoboth Beach’s Junior Lifeguard, where he stayed until he was old enough to try out as official patrol member in 2014, his Rookie Year.

In 2015-2016, he served as Veteran Guard; from 2017-2020, he was named Lieutenant; and from 2021-2025, he served as Chief of Daily Operations.

When he’s not working at Beach Patrol, Caceres is a Spanish Teacher at Sussex Academy, where he teaches grades 9-12. He also serves as an assistant swim coach and World Language Honor Society Advisor.

The Rehoboth Beach Patrol is something that is very special to me as well as many other members that have gone through it,” says Caceres. “Being able to serve as Captain for RBP is something that holds a tremendous amount of honor and with my profession as a teacher, it was the most logical next step to take as it allows me to be able to carry on its traditions, guide future lifeguards to becoming extraordinary individuals, and continue making the City of Rehoboth a safe place to live and visit.”

“We are thrilled to have Nico make this natural progression into role of Beach Patrol Captain,” says Rehoboth Beach City Manager Taylour Tedder. “Having someone literally grow up in this program and now take on this leadership role is ideal for the program and for the public. We also appreciate Captain Jeff Giles for his leadership and for what he’s done with the program over these past five years and are happy he’ll stick around for another summer as we make this transition.”

“For my five years as Captain, Nico has been my right-hand man,” says Administrative Chief Jeff Giles, who will maintain a position this summer to help with the transition. “He has always been by my side supervising the leadership teams and running day to day operations. He has earned the respect and admiration of the whole patrol and is always striving to make the Rehoboth Beach Patrol the best it can be.”

The Rehoboth Beach Patrol officially kicks off its 105th summer season on Saturday, May 23.
