Charrette Week: What We Heard

Prior to a more comprehensive report by Joe Kohl at the Mayor & Commissioners Meeting on July 17 at 2:00pm, here are the topline notes on what was heard during the Charrette Week. We will post the full presentation when it’s available.
- Focus attention on Downtown revitalization.
- Make it easier to achieve more mixed-use development that add to downtown vitality.
- Future Development should be pedestrian-oriented to reduce parking and circulating traffic.
- Reduced parking requirements in some locations and investigate again alternative parking strategies: Transit, bicycle, and multimodal support.
- Create a strategy with what to do about vacant commercial properties.
- Create incentives for workforce housing.
- Look at outdoor dining and public gathering spaces
- Support and improve cultural, arts, and community-serving uses
- Wilmington and Baltimore Avenue desperately need attention.
