Board of Commissioners approve recommended Boardwalk Task Force membersĀ

The Rehoboth Beach Boardwalk Historic Designation Task force is established to seek and acquire historic designation for the City of Rehoboth Beach Boardwalk, specifically, 1) in the form of a blue Delaware Historical marker issued by the Delaware Public Archives; and, 2) designation on the National Register of Historic Places (NRHP) as administered by the national Park Service and the State Historic Preservation Office. 

This past fall, the city sought members for the task force through an application process that was advertised in a variety of city communications. In today’s Board of Commissioners public meeting, the following slate of recommended Task Force members was approved, creating a group of nine voting and three non-voting members, including non-voting member and Task Force Chair Mayor Stan Mills:  

Residents/property owners  

1. Andrea Hoffman: Preservation experience.  

2. Wesley Combs: Consultant, writing skills, experience working with state and federal officials  

3. Christopher Bright: Historian.  

4. Jim Ellison: Architect; Former member, state historic preservation review board.  

5. Wayne Neale: Architect and preservation experience, including with National Register of Historic Places.

6. Frank Cole (Atlantic Bicycles)  

Outside city limits 

7. Michael Burton: Architect specializing in historic preservation.  (Designated as a non-voting member.)  

8. Mason Preddy: On similar task force in DC, yielding success in obtaining listing on National Register of Historic Places. (Designated as a non-voting member.)

9. Heidi Nasstrom Evans: Director, Rehoboth Beach Museum.  

10. Daniel Parsons: Sussex County Preservation Office. 

11. Kate McKenzie: VIA representative (Primary*)    Rose Marie Patin: VIA representative. (Alternate*) *Only one member will have voting privileges. The two VIA representatives count as a single voting member. 

The first task force meeting is not scheduled yet but is expected to take place in February.
