Blizzard 2026: By the Numbers

March 5, 2026

The late February blizzard hit Rehoboth Beach hard, with some long-time residents saying the over 18 inches of snow and damaging winds created the worst snow event they’ve seen. Our crews have been working tirelessly to clear snow, remove debris from trees and limbs, and restore the city back to normal. These efforts couldn’t have been done without the dedication of our city staff. Read below for details on the teams that supported the city — and the surrounding areas –during and after the storm.

Streets Department

  • 12-hour shifts during the initial impact were staffed by 8 members
  • The department used approximately 8 tons of street salt
  • 9 plow trucks traveled around the city during the snow and after

Dispatch Center

Staff in the 9-1-1 Dispatch Center worked 12-hour shifts during the storm, with 2-3 dispatchers rotating through each shift. From 1 pm Sunday through 7 am Tuesday, the team:

  • Responded to 370 calls and 90 incidents.
    • 30 of the incidents were responded to inside the city, 25 of which were calls about fallen trees/wires.
    • Outside of city limits, dispatchers coordinated calls with County Emergency Operations Center and the National Guard to assist calls from the Angola area.

Because tree and debris removal is still ongoing, we will share statistics when those efforts are complete.
