January 25th’s storm brought a few inches of snow and rain to the City of Rehoboth Beach, followed by very cold temperatures. Our city crews worked tirelessly to salt and plow the roads, and to keep the city safe and passable for residents, businesses and visitors.
Here’s a quick look at some of the numbers.
Public Works in the City of Rehoboth Beach Public had:
- Four departments – Streets, Wastewater, Water and Fleet – working the storm.
- Eight Street Department employees pushed snow in four plow trucks and one track loader with box blade for pushing snow in the parking lots.
- Seven Water Department staff members in five trucks.
- Three Wastewater staff members with two trucks.
- Fleet services had two staff members in one truck.
- Two truck mounted salt spreaders.
- 15 tons of road salt were used.
Some were here for two shifts, working 12 hours each. Crew members stayed over 22 hours with a 3-hour break in between, with shifts beginning at 12:30am on Sunday.
“I would like to recognize and appreciate the hard work of our City of Rehoboth Beach Public Works department for putting in the hours, the effort and the time away from home and their families to make sure our streets were safe and passable,” said City Manager Taylour Tedder. “It isn’t easy, especially in this cold, and they did a fantastic job. We would also like to thank everyone who followed the Emergency Route Declaration and stayed off the streets to enable them to do their jobs so efficiently.”
