“The Jones Family” Spends 18th Straight Year Vacationing Together in Rehoboth Beach
July 22, 2026

Back in 1991, Ginger Carroll and her second cousin took their young families to Bethany Beach for vacation. They started out with two homes, and as time went on, the group got bigger… and it kept getting bigger. In 2009, they moved their vacation to Rehoboth Beach, to New Castle Street, where they now fill three homes for a week every July. This year, more than 40 of them attended, ranging in ages from 1-86 years old.
“The Jones Family” is the name of their Facebook group, even though none of them have the last name of Jones. It’s Ginger’s mom’s maiden name, and her family was always one to get together, so the name carried through, since this group is all about getting together.
Ginger says the group is comprised of second, third and fourth cousins, and they just keep coming back to Rehoboth Beach, year after year. This year, they came from New Castle County; Elkton, MD; Allentown, PA; and North Carolina. They spend their days on the beach, hold a Sunday evening church service, and while they’re on their own for dinners since there are so many of them, they hold one leftovers night at the end of the week. They also have a Five Hundred tournament, and the winner not only gets a trophy, but also gets to be first in line at the picnics.
“The Jones Family” represents so many families who have made a trip to Rehoboth Beach a longstanding tradition. If you are one of those large groups of multi-generational families or friends who visit here every year and want to share your story, please reach out to: bthaler@rehobothbeachde.gov
Thank you to Ginger, and all the “Joneses” for spending time in Rehoboth Beach!
