Smoking in the City of Rehoboth Beach

June 9, 2026

As summer is here, please note the areas of the city where you are and are not allowed to smoke.

  • Smoke-free areas in Rehoboth Beach include the beach (see below for exceptions), dune crossings, the bandstand plaza, boardwalk and access ways, and city parks and playgrounds.
  • From May 15-September 15, there are designated smoking areas on the beach, close to each dune entry. These areas are marked by appropriate signage and are equipped with disposal containers. (During the off-season, there are fewer designated smoking areas on the beach.)
  • Another designated smoking area is in the front of City Hall, by the bus drop-off, and by the Convention Center entrance.

Smoking is allowed only at these designated smoking areas and on private property (i.e., the porch of your home). These rules apply to smoking tobacco, e-cigarettes, and hemp as well.

Smoking marijuana on any public property, including in designated smoking areas, is prohibited by state law.
