Beacon Middle School Students Participate in Give Back Day
June 3, 2026

On Friday, May 29, a group of 7th- and 8th-grade students from Beacon Middle School spent the day in the City of Rehoboth Beach as part of their Give Back Day.
Students were given several options for service projects in the area, and those who chose the City trip participated in a variety of activities to learn how local government works and to lend a helping hand.
They began their morning in City Hall, meeting with Mayor Stan Mills in the Mayor and Commissioners Room. The mayor explained how voting works and how motions are passed. Students then had the chance to sit at the dais themselves and run through mock decision-making, tackling important questions such as whether dogs and bikes should be allowed on the beach and boardwalk, and whether students should receive homework. (Unsurprisingly, they voted no on homework!)
Next, the group walked to the Bandstand, where some were interviewed by CoastTV, and created a few thank you messages in sidewalk chalk before heading to the beach for a cleanup, though thanks to the Public Works Department, there wasn’t much litter to be found. From there, they made a quick stop at Beach Patrol headquarters, where Chief Brian explained what it takes to be a Rehoboth Beach lifeguard.
The students then continued to Central Park, where they planted new trees to help replace those lost in February’s blizzard.
They also toured the Police Department with School Resource Officer Rob Scisco, ate lunch at the Convention Center, and capped off the day with a visit to the Rehoboth Beach Museum to build a time capsule.
It was a full and meaningful day, and we extend our appreciation to Ms. Kisiel and Ms. Luff for organizing and chaperoning the event. Thank you!
