Work to Begin on Rehoboth Beach Public Library: What You Need to Know
November 20, 2025
As many of you know, the Rehoboth Beach Public Library is preparing for a phased renovation of its downtown location to better serve the more than 45,000 people who visit each year. Approved in 2024, the project will bring essential repairs, modern upgrades, and flexible community meeting spaces, with construction expected from late 2025 to late 2026 or early 2027. The library will remain open with intermittent pauses as needed.
What you need to know – the sidewalk in front of the library will be impacted by this project. Beginning shortly after the Thanksgiving holiday, the sidewalk will have some portion of it closed during portions of the project until just before completion. The City is working with both the library and the Whiting-Turner Contracting Company to seek pedestrian-friendly and accessible routes throughout the project, but especially in the busy summer season.
As soon as the work along Rehoboth Ave is completed, the amount of sidewalk that is taken up can be reduced.
This effort is funded in part by an ARPA grant, State of Delaware Bond Bill, and generous community donors.
