Competitions

The Rehoboth Beach Patrol proudly hosts three lifeguard competitions each summer. These events showcase the skills and knowledge needed to be effective lifeguards and help build camaraderie among lifeguards serving on various regional patrols and those in our local patrols.

Mid-Atlantic Regional Championship

The United States Lifesaving Association (USLA) Mid-Atlantic Regional Championships is hosted in Rehoboth Beach each July. Over 300 lifeguard-athletes from patrols in Delaware, Maryland, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Virginia, Washington, DC, and West Virginia participate in action-packed events, including:

  • a 2-kilometer beach run
  • beach relay
  • surf race
  • rescue race
  • landline rescue race
  • board rescue race
  • run-swim-run
  • beach flags

The lifeguards finishing at the top in each event category go on to compete in the USLA Championships, held at a different location each year in August.
