2025 Elections

Each year, the City of Rehoboth Beach municipal election takes place on the second Saturday of August – on Saturday, August 9, in 2025.

Voting is from 10 am to 6 pm at the convention center. Two commissioner posts will be on the ballot.

Important dates to keep in mind:

  • June 2 – deadline to file nominating petitions to run for office
  • June 20 – Commissioners will judge qualifications of candidates nominated
  • June 25 – absentee ballots available
  • July 10 – voter registration deadline
  • August 5 – last day for city to mail absentee ballots
  • August 8 – absentee ballot requests must be filed by noon
  • August 9 – Election Day – voting from 10 am-6 pm at the convention center; Board of Elections meeting

Voter Information

To vote in City of Rehoboth Beach elections, voters must be:

  • at least 18
  • a resident or freeholder (for at least 30 days) or 10-year leaseholder (for at least six months)
  • registered in the city’s Book of Registered Voters.

Voters who miss two consecutive annual elections are placed on an inactive list. These voters are notified by postcard, and information about their voting status is requested.

Absentee Ballots

Voters who wish to vote by absentee ballot in the city’s election must submit a completed absentee ballot request form.

Absentee ballots are available 45 days prior to Election Day. Ballots will be mailed to everyone who has an absentee ballot request form on file with the city. The deadline for the city to mail absentee ballots is the last Tuesday before the election.

Absentee ballots must be returned in person or received by mail before polls close on Election Day.

All City of Rehoboth Beach commissioners must be at least 21 years of age. No less than three commissioners must be designated resident commissioners. A resident commissioner is a bona fide resident and domiciliary of the city. The mayor must be a bona fide resident and domiciliary of the city and have been domiciled in the City of Rehoboth Beach for at least 12 months immediately preceding the date of election. The other three commissioners must either have the same qualifications as a resident commissioner or be a freeholder of real estate located within the city.

Candidates must file a nominating petition signed by not less than 10 or more than 25 qualified electors of the city. To request a petition, email or call 302-227-6181, ext. 159. For the 2025 election, nominating petitions are due by 4:30 pm Monday, June 2. As prescribed by city charter, commissioners will judge each candidate’s qualifications; this will take place during the Board of Commissioners regular June 20 meeting.
