Rehoboth Beach Patrol to ring in summer season with comfort station grand opening

May 12, 2025

Join the Rehoboth Beach Patrol and the City of Rehoboth Beach for the grand opening of the new Beach Patrol/comfort station facility at Baltimore Avenue. A ribbon-cutting ceremony will take place at 10 am Thursday, May 22, along with a ringing of the opening bell and tours of the new facility.

The building, on which construction started in early 2024, is home to a medical office, public restrooms, and changing areas. Its second floor serves as headquarters for the Rehoboth Beach Patrol. The building also has an upper deck that provides panoramic views of the boardwalk and beach for observation by lifeguards.

Davis, Bowen & Friedel designed the facility for easy access by both the beach patrol and beachgoers. The two-story building also provides a flexible meeting space that may be used by the city after hours and in the off-season.

“Completion of this building is a major accomplishment for the city and represents a needed improvement for our visitors and lifeguard staff,” City Manager Taylour Tedder says. “The Beach Patrol is an integral part of Rehoboth Beach, and this new building will serve them – as well as many of our visitors – for years to come.”

The city began discussions around the need for a new beach patrol headquarters in 2018. In total, construction of the comfort station cost $5,449,770, with Delmarva Veteran Builders acting as construction contractor and EDiS as construction manager.

The grand opening ceremony is open to the public.
