Tuesday Morning Storm Update from the City of Rehoboth
February 24, 2026
City officials have been in touch with Delmarva Power, and crews are in the city working to restore power. Many residents are already reporting it being back on. There are numerous trees down and it could take a few days to remove all that are blocking streets. This work is mainly being done by Sussex Tree under the direction of our City Arborist.
Our streets crews are continuing to clear and salt sidewalks and roadways. There is some black ice this morning so please be careful. Statewide driving restrictions have been lifted by the Governor, but please use caution on the roads. The City Manager has also lifted the Emergency Route Declaration, so parking is open.
Overnight power was restored to all wastewater pump stations in town (one still is on generator out of town). While it’s always a good idea to conserve water, the formal request to limit water usage as much as possible is rescinded. Three of the wastewater pump stations in town were on generators yesterday without a clear timeframe of power restoration. Generators are a backup method of power, and while reliable, do fail occasionally. Should a generator fail while power is off, there is a potential from a failed wastewater pump station to have sewage backups, which is a situation we would all like to avoid. It’s less likely in the winter but still could occur. The request was communicated yesterday out of extreme caution.
